Viewing and Interacting with Vehicles

After logging in, you should see a message window and map, and below them one or more vehicles listed.

For example, if you have logged into the Live Network using the "livedemo" account, you will see a map with several green trucks ("pins") denoting the location of the demonstration vehicles. Shown in columns to the right are each vehicle's current location, destination, estimated time of arrival (ETA) and time of the last update to this information (see below).

Livedemo vehicles

In the vehicle list, you'll see icons in the Status and Actions columns:

The Status icon is a green or gray pin denoting whether the vehicle is receiving messages or out of contact, respectively.

The Send Trip icon acts as a button, allowing you to open the Send Trip dialog. Similary, the Send Message icon - when pressed - opens the "Send Message" window. As a default, the recipient of your communication is the vehicle associated with those buttons (on the same line) but you can choose a different recipient when you send your trip/message.

You may double-click on any vehicle on the map or its name in the list to zoom the map to that vehicle's location.

Click on the Refresh All button to update vehicle information.

Use the Filter By pick list to sort vehicles on the list by status (on-line or off-line) or to search for an individual vehicle.

To see additional pages, click on the numbered links below the Status column.

Send Stop/Trip

Click on the Send Trip icon for the appropriate vehicle.

When the Stop Builder opens (it replaces the map), enter a destination address and click Add Address. A City/State OR ZIP code are required (one or the other).

Send Trip Dialog

When you click "Add Address" the Stop Builder will generate a list of possible matches and display them. If there is an exact match it is automatically added to the Stop List, if not you will need to choose a match from the list that pops up.

After entering all of your stops, arrange them in the Stop List and select how you want the trip update sent (inserted in front of drivers current stops, at the end, or replace entirely), then click Send.

Send/Receive Message

1. Click on the Send Message icon for the appropriate vehicle.

2. In the Send Message dialog, select a vehicle from the TO: column at top, then enter the text of the message. (Highlight the existing text and type over it.)

Send Message Window

You may opt to customize/create additional response options. To do this, choose the number of response buttons you want the recipient to see from the Number of Answers pick list (1-4 buttons available). Enter new text on each button as desired. For example, to create four responses, click on the number 4 button and fill the corresponding text boxes as in the example below.

Send Message Window

3. When your message and response buttons are complete, press the Send button.

4. To see a confirmation that your message was sent and any responses or new messages you may receive, click the View Messages tab.

To update these messages, click the Refresh button. Click Clear All to delete them. (If youre using the ALK Live Demo, the simulated vehicles will generate responses randomly.)
